“Not All Grips Are Created Equal” Find Out What The Other Grip Companies Don’t Want You To Know The Star Grip story dates back more than 25 years. Engineers at Arc Engineering in Chandler, Arizona were asked to develop a rubber wrap style grip that looked and felt like leather. They wanted a grip that would not get hard or slick after exposure to the elements and the Arc engineers were up to the task. The new grip was marketed by a legendary PGA Tour professional under a different brand and revolutionized the grip industry. After several successful years, in a cost cutting move, the production was moved to China. In the span of a few short years, the brand died. In no time, the phone was ringing at Arc Engineering. Club builders, PGA Professionals, Tour players and avid golfers alike were demanding a quality grip that was made in the USA. “We kept getting calls from customers asking where they could get a grip as good as the ones I used to make,” says Jim Jennett, President of Arc. “I decided to buy the other brands on the market to sample and see what the problem was. I was shocked with the results of my analysis in reference to the varying grip weights, in most cases two full swing weights between the same style of grip. Their inefficiencies in their molding process also caused an out-of-round scenario. Simply put, the inside of their grips are not round which is like putting a grip on a bent shaft. The customer cannot see this because in most cases they buy their grips installed. That doesn’t happen at Star Grip, I wouldn’t allow it.” To meet the demand, Arc developed the Star Grip brand in 2001. With a one page brochure and no sales or marketing staff, Star has consistently been the favorite grip for thousands of customers worldwide.
